Extra information

Not in the final details:

Registration

Registration will be open in the Education Centre from 9:30 for the collection of Pegs/Dibbers/SI-Cards, the return of trophies and any changes in names.

SI-Cards

Team organisers can collect an envelope with their dibbers. Pupils who are regular orienteers and who have their own dibbers can use them but if they need hired ones, ask at registration. Please ensure that the correct dibber is given to each pupil and that any unused are returned. Warn the pupils that any losses will cost the school £30.

Trophies

There are team trophies for each course worked out from the total time of best three from the school. Overall Schools Trophies, Primary and Secondary go to the school with most runners within twice the winners time.

Disqualifications

This year, pupils who cannot find controls or visit the wrong one will not be disqualified but will have a 10 minute penalty for each one missing. Pupils who deliberately miss controls may still be disqualified.

Start List by Start Time

Travel

Follow the signs for the Forth Road Bridge and then follow the brown signs for Hopetoun House through South Queensferry. Approximate travel times are: Edinburgh City Centre 30 minutes, Stirling 35 minutes, Perth 35 minutes and Glasgow 50 minutes. Parking is free. Please do not use Sat Nav as this will direct you to a locked gate at the west of the Estate.

Terrain and Safety

All courses use the parkland around Hopetoun House – beautiful woodland with lots of paths. There are other waymarker posts in the grounds for various trails – please advise competitors to ignore these. Longer courses visit the deer park – a more open area with scattered trees –please note large individual trees are marked on the map as white. The house grounds are fairly flat; there is more climb in the deer park.

There will be a lot of controls in the area – please advise competitors that, even on the shorter courses they may come across controls that are not on their course.

Competitors must use the gates to cross from the house grounds and the deer park – the courses have been planned to take them through the gates which will be manned. No walls must be crossed at any point.

The area to the east of the front of the house contains a ha-ha – a low wall with a ditch on one side. There is also a ha-ha between the house grounds and the deer park. Competitors must not climb or jump on or off these.

There is an ornamental pond near the finish. Please take care.

On arrival at parking please proceed to the Education room where you will have your SI pegs allocated by the results team. From there it is only a short walk back across the front of the House to the start.

Map

Please note that there was a mistake in the initial information. The map scale is 1:7500 with the contour interval at 5m.

Start

The start will be very close to the main house and to car parking. All areas to the west (back) of the house will be out of bounds to competitors before their run – please keep to the area in front of the house where the minibuses will be parked.

Finish

Please ask all runners to punch the finish control and then proceed to the download as quickly as possible. This will help to ensure that the results can be processed as soon as possible.

Toilets /Café - these are near the registration/download

Prize Giving

This will take place as soon as possible after 1.15 pm. Current trophy holders – please return these to registration on arrival.

Litter

Please help us to keep litter to a minimum by encouraging your pupils to either use the bins provided or take litter home. Runners are asked not to take food or drink out on their course as this inevitably leads to litter being dropped. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.
